How to Type Pinyin with Tone Numbers in Microsoft Word
There are a few ways to type Pinyin with tone numbers in Microsoft Word.
1) Shortcut key
To type the corresponding code for a desired Pinyin character with tone number shown in the table below, and then press the keys “ALT and x” together. For ā, type 101, and then ALT + x.

2) Symbol Insertion

3) Use Find-and-Replace Macro (The macro is so cool!)
- Download the macro from http://www.csulb.edu/~txie/PINYIN/pinyin.htm
- Create a macro in your Word according to the instruction in the page above
- Run the macro to replace all occurrences with Pinyin with tone numbers
