How to Type Pinyin with Tone Numbers in Microsoft Word

There are a few ways to type Pinyin with tone numbers in Microsoft Word.

1) Shortcut key

To type the corresponding code for a desired Pinyin character with tone number shown in the table below, and then press the keys “ALT and x” together. For ā, type 101, and then ALT + x.

2) Symbol Insertion

3) Use Find-and-Replace Macro (The macro is so cool!)

Separate Characters by a delimiter with Microsoft Word

Problem: To separate Chinese Characters by a delimiter, for example, to convert

我们在中文学校上课  ===> 我;们;在;中;文;学;校;上;课;

Solution:

1) select the text being adding delimiters among the characters

2) open “Find and Replace” window from the menu or toolbar of Microsoft Word

3) fill out the “Replace” form with desired information like the screen shot below, where “;” (semicolon) will be inserted:

4) click “Replace” or “Replace All” button to insert semicolons into the selected text.
